Q: Where will the 2014 Spring Renewal Cleanse Retreat take place?
The event will be held at a luxurious, six-acre private sanctuary on the slopes of Mt. Haleakala on the Hawaiian island of Maui, midway between the historic towns of Makawao and Paia. The retreat center was chosen for its magnificent setting and exquisite accommodations.

Q: What information should I know when booking my travel?
Check-in for the event begins at 3 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Our welcoming dinner begins at 6 pm.
In addition to looking for direct flights to Kahului, Maui (OGG), you can look for flights to Honolulu (HNL) with continuing service to Kahului, Maui (OGG).
Q. How far is the event location from Kahului Airport on Maui?
The retreat center, Lumeria Maui, is located about 10 miles from the airport or about 21 minutes by car. Taxis are available at the airport. The address and driving directions will be sent to event participants.
Q: Is there Internet access? Television access?
We invite you to be fully present at the retreat. Please do not attempt to conduct your home or business life from the retreat. If you are generally busy with family, relationship, or business management, the retreat is an extraordinary opportunity for you to step back and discover who you truly are, what you want, and where you'd like to go in your life, independent of your regular routine and interactions. It will be a great week to recharge and renew your spirit.
There is no television available at the retreat center.
Cell phone service is available, as well as wireless Internet. However, we ask that you refrain from bringing cell phones or communication devices into the program events, except to take notes. During the event, all devices should be muted to
preserve the harmony of our environment and experience.
Q: If I'm new to yoga, will I be able to participate?
The yoga classes will be suitable for all levels and ages. Options will be given during yoga sequences for more advanced participants. Classes are designed to support your healing journey, and to enhance greater body awareness, and to meet any difficulties you may be hosting with compassion and wisdom.
Q: What do I need to know about "cleansing?"
We all have chemical residues of modern processed foods, air pollution, etc. in the cells of our tissues, which can injure our health and prevent us from functioning optimally.
A week of fresh juices, pure foods, deep rest and clean Hawaiian air, days filled with the teachings of wise, caring mentors, and the company of positive companions on your journey towards better health will help cleanse your cells and your spirit and leave you feeling more rested and better able to function in all you do.
You will have the option of fasting on fresh juices or eating light, plant-based meals. Our juice program consists of four 16 ounce glasses of freshly-made vegetable or fruit juices, one each served at 9 am, noon, 3 pm and 6 pm. In consultation with Dr. Klaper, you will choose either the juicing or dining program by Saturday, March 1, 2014.
Everyone will share a welcoming dinner together on Sunday, March 30. Our juice program will begin the next morning.
Juice fasts will be broken on Saturday morning, April 5, 2014 with fruit, salad, or steamed vegetables in preparation for our celebration dinner that evening.
Depending on one's individual body function and toxin load, some people may experience some "detox symptoms" during the first 1-3 days of the event. These may range from common "caffeine withdrawal" headaches to various bodily signs and sensations, such as loose stools, nausea, skin rash, etc. These sensations are transient, resolving spontaneously as days progress.
By the end of the Spring Renewal Cleanse Retreat, everyone can expect to feel lighter, healthier, and more balanced. However, people who choose the meal program, as well as those who choose the juicing fast, may also experience some mild detox symptoms, depending on one's toxin load and ability to excrete it.
Q: Will I be hungry?
Each 16 ounce glass of juice is best consumed slowly, a few sips at a time. Dr. Klaper advises that you take an hour or more with each glass.
When enjoyed in this way, the juices are surprisingly satisfying and hunger is minimal - and generally decreases with each day as one's body becomes more attuned to the lighter "fuel."
Participants who choose the meal program are encouraged to eat slowly and consciously, being fully present with each bite. Meals eaten this way can be highly satisfying. Fruit and herbal teas will be available at all times.
Q: What is the daily schedule?
You will awake amidst peaceful surroundings, including lush greenery and fragrant flora, which has made Maui an attractive destination for so many. The island is vibrant with natural beauty. Step outside to breathe in the sweet Pacific air and
take in the expansive view of islands, mountains, and ocean.
The overall structure of the week will be that of a journey toward the heart of well-being, and each day's sessions will help you along your way, illuminating and supporting you in
making wiser choices in all that you do – in food preferences, in body movement and care, and in creating a more positive life experience.
This program is designed to support you on every level of your well-being.
The first gathering each day will be for meditation and yoga. This is a powerful time for you to align with your spiritual source and join energetically with your co-participants. After meditation, your morning yoga session with Alese Jones will start your life force energy to flow in a most gentle, revitalizing way.
After breakfast, event participants will meet as a group with Dr. Michael Klaper, often outside in a beautiful, natural setting, for a lecture and Q&A session exploring ways to optimize healing in your body - and in your life.
Lunch and juices will be served at noon. After lunch, you will have free time to rest, enjoy the Maui afternoon, and connect with others. Massage and other optional treatments can be arranged through Guest Services personnel at the retreat center.
At 2 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, event participants will meet as a group to explore healthful eating and food preparation with Chef Chad Sarno.
At 4:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, there will be an hour of yin or restorative yoga with Alese Jones.
On Tuesday afternoon, there will be free time to relax, enjoy an excursion on Maui, or practice yoga with Alese Jones.
Dinner will be served at 6 pm each day followed by an evening program at 7:30 pm designed to be entertaining and enlightening. Enjoy Maui-style "talk story" sessions with best-selling author, Alan Cohen, Dr. Michael Klaper, and other special guests.
You can expect to make new friends who may become a rich source of support for you - both during and long after the Spring Renewal Cleanse Retreat.

Q: Is there any preparation I need to do before arriving on Maui?
Yes. It is not wise to embark upon a cleanse with meat, fish, dairy products (cheese, ice cream, yogurt, etc.) and flour products (breads, baked goods, etc.) in your intestines.
During the 3-5 days before you begin your Spring Renewal Cleanse Retreat on Maui, Dr. Klaper STRONGLY encourages you to eat a whole-food, plant-based diet. Typical breakfasts would include fruit with or without oatmeal or other whole grain cereal. Lunches and dinners should feature large salads, hearty vegetable soups, steamed green and yellow vegetables, or vegetable stir-fries. Meat, dairy, eggs and flour products are best avoided or at least minimized during the 3-5 days before the cleanse - including your travel day. Be sure to pack some healthy travel foods for your flight(s) rather than relying on airport fare.
Dr. Klaper also strongly encourages you to stop ingesting caffeine for 7 days prior to the event so withdrawal headaches do not unnecessarily interfere with the enjoyment of your time on Maui.
Q: What if I am on medication or taking supplements?
In your private, pre-event health consultation with Dr. Klaper, medications and supplements will be discussed and dosages adjusted as indicated.
Q: What should I do about breaking the fast on my trip home?
Participants in the juice program will break their fast on Saturday morning, April 5 with a light meal.
All participants will be given guidance for continuing healthy eating practices at home.
Q: Are spa services available?
Wonderful spa treatments are available at Lumeria Maui at your own expense and can be arranged directly with their Guest Services personnel.
Q: If I'm juice fasting, will I need colonics?
Colonic irrigations are not part of the Cleanse Program, but can can be arranged off-site if you and/or Dr. Klaper feels it would be of benefit.
Disposable (Fleet) enemas will be available upon request for participants to self-administer, if desired.
Q: Will there be free time for excursions on Maui and to explore the island?
Options for free time excursions are available. However, the focus of our program will be on rest and restoration. As a result, participants are encouraged to partake of the healing foods and extraordinary event location Dr. Klaper has chosen on Maui.
If you want to enjoy sightseeing on Maui, Dr. Klaper suggests arriving on island a few days early and to conclude your Maui sojourn with the Spring Renewal Cleanse Retreat, so that, when you return home, you can feel rested, refreshed, and restored.
Q: How far are the closest beaches?
Baldwin Beach, west of Paia, is about 10 minutes away and is splendid for walking, sitting, or getting wet. Enjoy the sun, breeze, and waves.
Ho'okipa Beach, east of Paia, is about 12 minutes away and is known as one of the best places in the world for windsurfing. Sit on the beach, use shaded picnic tables, or watch windsurfers from the overlook above.
Q: What if I'm traveling alone? Can I be paired with a roommate?
Please let us know if you want to be paired in a double occupancy room with someone else. We will do the best we can to pair you with a compatible roommate.
Q: As a participant in the event, can I have family member come with me and share my room, even if he/she is not an event participant?
In order to set the best atmosphere for healing, everyone who stays at the event location will be event participants. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to participate with your family member! Please keep in mind, this retreat is not suited for children. Participants must be at least 18 years of age.
Q: How do I know what type of room I/we will get?
Each room features a unique decor and booking is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are limited number of single and double rooms and a few rooms that can accommodate 3 guests.

Q: If I'm sending a check or money order via postal mail, how will I know my/our room is reserved?
After we receive your payment, contact information, and room preference via postal mail, our Event Coordinator will contact you to confirm receipt, answer questions, and schedule your pre-retreat, private health consultation with Dr. Klaper.

Q: What if I need to cancel or cannot attend? What is your cancellation policy?
If we can fill your space with someone else, your payment will be refunded. However, if we cannot fill your space, then your payment will not be refunded.
: Juice fasting is a great way for the body to begin healing itself, but it's not for everyone, especially pregnant and nursing mothers, children, diabetics, those with cachexia or severe malnutrition or experiencing severe stress. During your private health consultation with Dr. Klaper, your suitability for juice fasting will be determined and the best nutritional program for the retreat (juicing vs. eating light meals) will be decided.
